Sign of autumn – XII International Bach Academy
26 September 2014 Events
In November Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Music and Theatre opens XII International Bach Academy. Russian-German project is held together with International Bach Academy (Stuttgart, Germany) and with the support of International and Regional Cultural Affairs Center of Ministry of Culture of the Krasnoyarsk region.
Starting from November 3, for the week the work with the students will be dedicated to I.S. Bach’s music. Once again, artistic director of Bach Academy conductor Stefan Weiler, as well as soloists: Aisha Tyumler (soprano), Judith Meyer (mezzo-soprano), Jean-Pierre Uele (tenor) and Philippe Caven (baritone) will share experience and show their understanding of performing traditions of the works of the outstanding composer.
Guests from Germany will carry out master classes on choral conducting and solo singing. Students of Krasnoyarsk College of Arts named after P.I. Radkevich, Krasnoyarsk Academy of Music and Theatre, symphony orchestra of KSAMT and Academic symphony orchestra of Krasnoyarsk regional philharmonic will traditionally participate in program. Main theme of XII Bach Academy will be “Mass”.
“I would like to launch a little series of five years” – shared his plans maestro Stefan Weiler – The theme of the series is “Mass”. As you know, I.S. Bach created big mass h-moll. Besides he wrote 4 short masses, which consist of texts “Kyrie and Gloria”. These masses have 6 parts (3 choral and 3 arias). All parts of short masses are parodies on the previously written cantatas. The first 4 years we will perform master classes on 4 short masses and will examine parts of those cantatas, which music Bach used. On the finishing concert-conversation we will inquire into mass and perform it. Then on the 5th year we will conclude the series with the mass h-moll!”
This year conductor has chosen for analysis and performance mass G major and in addition to it some fragments from several cantatas.
The final chord of XII International Bach Academy will become concert for wide audience in the Small Concert Hall of regional philharmonic on November 8 at 19:00. In the program will take part: Krasnoyarsk Academic symphony orchestra (art director – Mark Kadin), Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Music and Theatre Choir (art director – Nikolai Balyshev), laureate of international competition choral ensemble of soloists “Tebe poem” (art director – Konstantin Yakobson) and soloists from Germany.
Concert will feature arias for the soloists with the orchestra of V.A. Mozart and J. Haydn's Mass “Harmony”.
It should be pointed out that Bach Academy is held in Krasnoyarsk regularly, starting from November, 2001. "We absorb the music of Bach with mother's milk. Performing Bach for Russian people is more difficult, it's as if I started to conduct works by Tchaikovsky. But I wouldn’t have come here if I had not seen progress, "- said Stefan Weiler in an interview.
